Dana's News:

12/5/09: "Hello friends, Being back at LaQuinta Country Club teaching full time is a breath of fresh air. As much as I loved, learned, and met amazing people on Tour, I've never worked so hard in my life! I will be at LaQuinta C.C. through May and have another adventure planned for summer 2010.... Hugs to all, Dana"

7/30/09: "Hello my friends,

Hammond IN was an interesting stop on tour. Amoungst steel mills and massive oil containers lies a beautiful golf course built on the 'steel sledge'. I played okay, missed a few shots and came short of the cut but had friends from Chicago and Michigan to watch me play and enjoyed lunch together.

We had a two week break after Hammond so George and I spent time in Michigan to visit friends and his family with a beautiful boat ride on Lake Michigan, golf at Gull Lake CC and Point O' Woods CC, breath taking courses. Then we spent time in Chicago and played Exmoor CC- it is as majestic as ever. We had a lovely evening with many members and shared fond memories. Arkansas was our next stop to see George's friends and enjoy their ranch then back to Austin for a golf lesson.
Just in time to work on my game, use Motion Golf with Buck Mayers and hit the road to Bloomfield CT a mere 30 hour drive, my lessons were fruitful.

The golf course was a Pete Dye design and the greens were at best wicked. Hitting 13 greens each day with 36 putts is close to insanity but with composure I thanked the Pro and again met another loving host family. I hate golf.
Having two days off I went to visit friends in Boston and they invited me to play The Country Club, home of the 1999 Ryder Cup where Justin Leornard made the 40' put on 17- Wow! I love golf.
To Concord NH with no expectations. 75-71-72 and won some money. Golf's gifts are the people we meet and places we go because this game is so unpredictable one just accepts the outcome and enjoy the journey.
I love this game!

Please let me know of your quest's!

Hugs to all,

Dana"

6/1/09: "Hello Friends,
I made my tee times, hit fairways and greens, made putts, "stayed in the moment" "hit one shot at a time" and I WON!! This means I compete in the LPGA McDonalds Chanpionship June 11-14 at Bulle Rock in Maryland!!!! Jamie Zimeron won the Senior Division.
I'm now on my way to Marion Iowa for a Duramed Futures Tour event June 5-7. It feels great to be rewarded for the hard work and preparation.

Dana"

5/5/09: "Hello Friends!
After missing my first 2 cuts and hitting the ball okay (which isn't good enough out on the Duramed Futures Tour) I got smart and took a lesson. Buck Mayers who keeps company with Hank Haney, Butch Harmon and other teaching icons helped me out in Austin with "Motion Golf" a state of the art video system. I went to San Antonio with a game I can compete with and felt like a contender, got greedy on a couple shots and missed the cut.
So off to Kansas City to see many LaQuinta members, play at Leawood South C.C. May 15, 16 AND 17!!
I will be home and available for lessons May 19-24!
Hugs to all,

Dana"

Dana Bates Says Farewell To Duramed FUTURES Tour

First-year Tour member and LPGA Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) Dana Bates of Thousand Palms, Calif., will be saying good-bye to the Duramed FUTURES Tour following the Alliance Bank Golf Classic this week in Syracuse, N.Y.

"It's been such a great journey," said Bates, winner of the 2009 T&CP Western Section Championship. "Being on the Tour has really helped my teaching abilities. My stock has gone up as a touring teacher, one that can actually go out there and compete with these gals, then come back and teach."

Bates decided to leave the Tour and teach full-time following a moment on the greens at the USI Championship in Concord, N.H.

"The straw that broke the camel's back for me was out on the course last week," recalls Bates, who teaches at the La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, Calif. "My competitor was making a putt and I was rooting so much for that putt to go in. After she made the putt, I was like 'Good putt!' As I was walking off the green, I thought, 'I don't think Tiger Woods does that. I don't think he roots for the other players.' As a mom, and as a teacher, I don't really have the psyche of a competitor. I really want everyone to do well."

While her journey with the Tour may have been short, Bates says there are definite memories she will take with her.

"Shooting a 68 in the first round in Mason, Ohio, [The Duramed Championship] is up there," said Bates, who is currently tied for 91st at 6-over-par (148) at this week's Alliance Bank Golf Classic. "Just getting off to a really great start like that, I'll remember. I certainly stumbled in the second round, but I made the cut. It was really fun to be in one of the last groups to tee off on Saturday."

Bates says she'll also miss the camaraderie among the Duramed FUTURES Tour professionals and staff.

"Everyone has been so great," said Bates. "They've really welcomed me. I've made such good friends and contacts. I know when I finish here in Syracuse, I'll start crying. To be my age, and to be on this journey, it's been inspiring. It's been my goal to inspire women over 40 to begin new quests."

As the end nears, Bates still has one goal - to win the Alliance Bank Golf Classic.

"I'd like to go out in a blaze of glory," laughs Bates. "If I do win, I might think I should maybe play more! I've learned that when you have zero expectations, golf has a way of showing up. I'm just going to enjoy the moment."
